Bengaluru traffic police crack down on speeding vehicles at Sumanahalli Junction

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) conducted a special enforcement drive against speeding at Sumanahalli Junction, located within the Kamakshipalya traffic police limits.

Initially, the BTP considered conducting the drive at two high-speed zones: NICE Road and Sumanahalli Junction. They ultimately chose Sumanahalli to directly address urban speeding concerns. The junction is a well-known accident black spot, particularly hazardous for pedestrians, according to the Kamakshipalya traffic police inspector.

The stretch from Laggere Chowdeshwari Nagar Bridge to the Sumanahalli Flyover up ramp has been identified as an accident-prone zone. However, the number of fatalities in 2024 has seen a decline, which officials attribute to the installation of high-rise medians.

During the enforcement drive, the BTP utilised speed guns to monitor and flag speeding vehicles. Seven motorists were fined on the spot, while three more were identified for violations and will face penalties. Additionally, the BTP flagged a vehicle speeding due to an emergency and used the opportunity to raise awareness among other motorists about the dangers of speeding.
