Bengaluru: Wife of police official alleges her children were harassed during IPL match

Bengaluru: The wife of a senior police officer from Karnataka has alleged that two people harassed her two children during the recent IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

According to the police, the incident occurred in the Diamond Box (invite-only seating for VIPs) around 9.40 pm on Saturday.

Nitu Thakur, the complainant, alleged that two men abused her 22-year-old son and 26-year-old daughter. She also alleged that the suspects touched her daughter inappropriately.

Nitu told the police that the entire altercation and "unruly behaviour" were captured on her son’s phone.

“Even the staff (bouncers) present there didn’t make any effort to protect the modesty of a young girl by intervening. It is also unfortunate that there was no one on duty in the Diamond Box from the police department whom my daughter could have approached for help,” Nitu alleged in her complaint.

Based on the complaint, the Cubbon Park police registered an FIR under BNS sections 351(1) (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace), 75(1) (sexual harassment), and 79 (acts intended to insult a woman’s modesty).

Sources in the police said that one of the two suspects was a senior Income Tax (I-T) official. The probe so far revealed that the argument began over seating arrangements and later turned heated.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda confirmed that a case had been registered, but declined to divulge further details as the investigation was underway.
