The BJP on Monday said large-scale irregularities to the tune of Rs 850 crore have occurred in the purchase of sweeping machines and compactors in the BBMP.

BJP MLA Ashwathnarayan told reporters that Bengaluru Development Minister K J George and senior BBMP officials were involved in the scam. Sweeping machines supplied by the contractor were entirely different from what was specified in the tender. When the minister and the officials came to know that a complaint was lodged with the Lokayukta, the original file was destroyed and a new file was created in order to hush up the issue, he added.

On the other end, Congress leader V S Ugrappa demanded a high-level probe into granting of 245 acres of prime land in Bengaluru south taluk by the Bagair Hukkum committee headed by BJP leader R Ashoka.
