Blacklisting has salutary effect on contractor

Last Updated 24 May 2011, 19:15 IST

However, it appears that the decision to blacklist Madhava Hytech and suspend its contract is just an empty threat, at least for now.

Fresh tenders

Despite orders by BBMP commissioner Siddaiah to blacklist the contractor and to take up the rest of the project by the Palike itself, sources said the process to issue fresh tenders was still a long way away.

It is said that the contractor will be spared for the next few months, till the percentage of the project work that now needs to be taken up by the BBMP is ascertained.

“It is a lengthy process for BBMP to take up the remainder of the underpass project afresh. We have to start by ascertaining the cost of that part of the project that has been completed. After this, fresh tenders have to be called to execute the balance of the project, Palike sources said.

Sources said the company could not complete the project due to the land acquisition hassles in the last four years.

It is also learnt that Madhava Hytech has not been able to complete seven other projects in the City.

They include five stormwater drain (SWD) projects and the CNR Rao Junction underpass.
