BU approves excess intake

514 students future at stake

The colleges had admitted a total of 514 excess students without the university’s approval for higher intake.

The Syndicate granted the approval with a warning and on the condition that the excess admissions will be apportioned in the next academic year. The syndicate has also authorised the Vice-Chancellor to approve other such cases if colleges approached him.

Deccan Herald had reported last week that the University and colleges were in a tussle following the VC’s refusal to approve the admissions. The colleges had gone ahead with the admissions simply based on the recommendations of a Local Inquiry Committee.
The recommendations were subsequently rejected by the Academic Council leaving the fate of the students uncertain. The students have to appear for the semester examinations scheduled to commence from Nov 19.

Meanwhile, the Syndicate also resolved to approve new norms relating to affiliation standards for UG and PG courses with a few minor changes to recommendations made in a report of Professor K Eresi, Director of the varsity’s planning board.
