Last Updated 05 May 2015, 19:05 IST

Bangalore University has rescheduled the sixth semester commerce examination, following a question paper leak.

Elective paper IV, Accounting for Business Decisions, was scheduled for Tuesday. But the university officials got wind of a leak and rescheduled it.

Two more papers which follow Tuesday’s examination have also been rescheduled as a precautionary measure. However, the university officials have not yet lodged a police complaint in this regard.

A total of six questions were leaked. For every subject, the university prepares three question papers and on the day of the examination, one of the three papers is given to students. The officials found that two questions each (one six marks question and 18 marks question) were leaked from the three papers.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, university vice chancellor Prof B Thimme Gowda said that when all the three papers were opened, they found that two questions were leaked from each of the paper set for the subject.

“This way, it was ensured that whichever paper is given to students on the exam day, they would score a minimum of 24 marks.”

The university officials suspect someone privy to all the three papers to be behind the leak.

They suspect the involvement of a member of the board of examiners.

The vice chancellor has constituted a committee to look into the issue. The committee would draft a preliminary report in this regard and the university would lodge a police complaint thereafter.

“We hope to give a complaint within a week. Based on our past experience, we need to have accurate details before giving the report. The committee will help us compile the same,” the vice chancellor
said.

The chairman of the Board of Studies and the Dean of Commerce, along with a subject expert, will be part of the committee.

As many as 28,567 students are appearing for the sixth semester examinations, according to the statistics provided by the university officials.

According to an official release from the university, the Accounting for Business Decisions paper will be held on May 11.

The Management Accounting paper scheduled for May 7 will be held on May 13, and the Principles of Auditing paper, scheduled for May 9, will be held on May 15.
