Cellphone for prisoner: CAR constable detained

A police constable attached to the City Armed Reserve (CAR) was detained by Parappana Agrahara prison authorities on Monday afternoon for trying to smuggle three mobile phones into the prison.

According to Raja, DIG (Prisons), Yenkanna V Meti, a constable attached to the CAR (South), was tasked with escorting the convict Abdul Karim Lala Telgi, in the fake stamp-paper case, to a City court for a hearing. In his note to Parappana Agrahara police, Raja said that Meti intended to give the phones to Telgi.

Prison authorities, however, discovered three mobile phones and SIM cards on Meti when he entered the prison. He was detained and handed over to Parappana Agrahara police, who have taken up an investigation.
