Chikkajala PSI caught red-handed by Lokayukta while taking Rs 2 lakh bribe to file ‘B report’

Bengaluru: A sub-inspector posted at the Chikkajala police station was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh for filing a ‘B report’ in a cheating case, the Lokayukta police said.

Acting on a complaint lodged by one Ravikumar, the Lokayukta police registered a case and laid a trap, arresting PSI Shivanna while he was accepting the bribe money, officials said.

Officials said a cheating case was registered at the Chikkajala police station against Ravikumar. To file a ‘B report’ in the case, Shivanna allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 3 lakh.

A police “B Report” (or B-Summary) is a final report filed by the police to the court, indicating the complaint was false, malicious, and no offense occurred, meaning the accused is not guilty and should be discharged.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, Ravikumar approached the Lokayukta police and lodged a complaint.

Based on the complaint, the Lokayukta police registered a case and conducted a trap operation. As per the plan, Ravikumar placed Rs 2 lakh in cash on Shivanna’s two-wheeler parked near the police station.

When Shivanna came to collect the money, Lokayukta officials caught him red-handed in the presence of witnesses and took him into custody for further investigation.
