A recklessly driven mini lorry knocked down a bike rider on the Devarabeesanahalli flyover, killing him on the spot early Monday morning. Police said the driver was drunk.

The victim, Prashanth Kumar D, 25, a native of Andhra Pradesh employed with a private firm in ITPL, was staying in a rented accommodation at Whitefield.

On Monday at about 7:45 am, Prashanth, a civil engineer, was riding his bike from Devarabeesanahalli towards Mallathalli, when a speeding Canter rammed his two-wheeler and crushed him to death.

Passersby caught the driver, Hanumaiah, 32, and beat him up. The Old Airport Road traffic police rushed to the spot and arrested him. A senior police officer said Hanumaiah, a resident of Banaswadi, was drunk at the time of the accident.

After getting him examined at Bowring Hospital, the HAL police booked him for culpable homicide and transferred the case to the Old Airport Road traffic police station.
Body found in sump

The body of a middle-aged man was found floating in the water sump of a building where he lived with his family, off Beerasandra Main Road in Devasandra.

Siddaraju, 42, was working as a lathe operator at a private factory. Police said he did not return home after stepping out of the house for a walk, late on Sunday night. The family searched for him that night, but to no avail. His body was discovered in the water sump behind the house on Monday morning. The sump was deep and did not have a proper cover. Siddaraju, who was in an inebriated condition, may have lost his balance, fallen in, and drowned, KR Puram police said.
