Bengaluru: Starting Wednesday (March 5), the Electronics City elevated expressway will be closed daily from 11 pm to 6 am to facilitate maintenance work by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The 9.9-km long flyover connecting Silk Board Junction to Electronics City serves as a key stretch connecting companies in southern Bengaluru with the IT belt that lies on the side of the Outer Ring Road in the southeast and the rest of the city.
.One-ways on pilot basis to decongest part of Bengaluru's Electronics City.
A traffic advisory by the Bengaluru Traffic Police noted that the flyover would be closed for all vehicles going in both directions until further notice. This will not affect daytime traffic, as the flyover will be open and accessible between 6 am and 11 pm every day. Vehicles can use the service road below the flyover between 11 pm and 6 am.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic, South) Shiva Prakash Devaraju noted that this would probably be the case for at least a month. "This is not expected to affect traffic that much because by 10 pm, the traffic on that stretch comes down to less than 20% of what we see during the day. Buses and heavy goods vehicles have anyway always been on the service road and not on the flyover," he told DH.

According to a source, a coat of asphalt will be applied to the flyover during this major maintenance work. Since the flyover will be shut only at night, authorities will be able to asphalt only 600-700 metres during the seven-hour window. The flyover will be asphalted two times over, which means the work will take approximately one month.
