The latest area to join the plastic ban drive is Electronics City.<br /><br /></p>.<p> Home to around 200 companies and establishments, the IT hub is gearing up to shun single-use disposables and plastic covers that often end up in dumpyards and choke drains.<br /><br /> Electronics City Industrial Township Authority (ELCITA), an urban local body for E-City, that has been spearheading the campaign with companies like Infosys, HP and Wipro by holding awareness programmes, has issued a draft notification on plastic ban to companies and have sought a reply by March 7. “Once we receive a response, we will issue a final notification and implement it. The drive, that will be launched on March 5 officially, will apply to eateries, hotels, small shops and restaurants,” said CEO from ELCITA, Rama NS.<br /><br />Doddathogur and Konappana Agrahara panchayats are also joining the campaign and have already issued a notification banning for plastics.<br /><br />Rama said enforcement is key and would be done after 15 days against owners of shops and eateries violating the directive. “ELCITA members and panchayat members will visit shops and companies to check for violations. Individuals from apartments, colleges, companies, local administration offices and neighbouring panchayats are also joining the campaign,” she added. The campaign will begin on March 5 from 10 am to 12.30 pm. The assembly point is ELCITA office parking area, 7(P), ELCITA Complex, West Phase, Electronics City.<br /><br />Solid Waste Management Round Table (SWMRT) members who are relieved with the government’s steps on curbing the use of plastics said 3,000 citizens from various localities like Banashankari, Yelahanka and BTM Layout have come together to create awareness on plastics.
