<p>A 23-year-old Northeastern student and an evangelist was assaulted by a group of five persons in Lakshmipuram near Indiranagar in the early hours of Thursday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>According to the police, the victim Thangpimang Kipgen, 23, a native of Manipur, had come to the city in 2012. He is a student at Agape Baptist Bible College in Kothanur. He is also an evange-list with Thadou Christian Fellowship Church in Halasur.<br /><br />Around 1 am, Kipgen was walking back home after visiting a few of his friends in Indiranagar. As he approached his house in Lakshmipuram, around five persons stopped him and started attacking him. The miscreants fled the spot as a few residents came out when Kipgen raised an alarm.<br /><br />Kipgen told DH, “Around 1 am, while I was walking, a person hit me on my face without any provocation. As I started running, he threw a stone at me and a few others joined him. I immediately called my friends and raised an alarm. As the neighbours came out, the attackers took to their heels. There were around five people but I could not figure out exactly who they were and why they attacked me as I was in a state of panic. We have filed a complaint at the Indiranagar police station.”<br /><br />A senior police officer said, “The Indiranagar police have registered a case and efforts are on to trace the assailants. The attackers were speaking in the local language and are suspected to be from Lakshmipuram or surrounding areas.”<br /><br />Meanwhile, the Thadou Students' Association issued a press release condemning the attack on evangelist Kipgen. They have requested the police to take action against the miscreants and also provide security to the general public, saying there was a rise in crime in and around Lakshmipuram.</p>
