'Expedite work on three lakes'

During an inspection drive, the committee led by its Chairman K Ranganna noticed encroachment of Uttarahalli, Dorekere and Puttenahalli lakes.

Eviction of slum dwellers who have encroached nearly 1.2 acres on Puttenahalli lake bed, has begun and they have been allotted houses at Bettedasapura near Electronic city.

Refuse to vacate

However, unhappy with the arrangement, the slum dwellers have refused to vacate. The committee members asked the officers to speed up the eviction process and begin work on rejuvenating the lake, which is estimated to cost Rs 89 lakh in the first phase, and Rs 79 lakh in the second phase.

At Dorekere, the members decided to set up a Sewerage Treatment Plant at a cost of Rs 2.1 lakh, to treat water up to a million litres per day (MLD) of the nine MLD generated in the vicinity.

A sum of Rs eight crore has been earmarked for the lake’s rejuvenation.
