Cyber Labs Programme Manager K Venkatesh Murthy on Thursday called for more stringent laws to monitor use of internet.

Addressing a workshop on Cyber Security, Cyber Laws & Cyber Crime, under the aegis of UGC, he rued that internet cafes have failed to maintain records of all users, recalling the incident wherein a youth began stalking a girl after taking down her address from a cyber cafe. Internet, however, still had its uses despite its misuse, he said. A girl, who was kidnapped in City, was tracked down through the IP address of her abductors, through which they had sent a picture of the girl.

Bangalore City Police Crime Division Deputy Superintendent of Police M D Sharath said mobile phones and social networking sites have become easy targets for hackers and are a major source of cyber crime. He pointed out that most of the cyber criminals are below 30 and advised students to avoid misuse of internet.
