The fair price shop (FPSs) owners across the State have threatened to go on a strike if the government did not withdraw its order mandating the FPSs to function from 8 am to 8 pm.
Karnataka Fair Price Shop Owners’ Association president T Krishnappa said here on Tuesday that a majority of the FPSs in the State would have to close down if the government enforced its slew of directions issued recently.
He said that the FPSs on an average get a commission of Rs 5,000 per month while they had to shell out Rs 9,000 towards staff salary. The shop owners are being victimised for no fault of theirs, he rued.
