Fresh spell of rain floods parts of Bengaluru, disrupts traffic

Bengaluru: A fresh spell of heavy rain on Sunday left parts of Bengaluru flooded and disrupted traffic, once again exposing the city’s fragile infrastructure.

Several homes and water sumps in Varanasi Layout, Hoodi, were inundated. Sai Layout, repeatedly affected this monsoon due to its low-lying terrain and blocked stormwater drains, saw similar flooding.

Waterlogging slowed traffic at multiple points, including BGS flyover near the City Market, Thanisandra–Nagawara Junction, Bagalur Cross–IAF Junction, Hebbal–Airport Road, Devinagar–Kuvempu Circle, Outer Ring Road near Babusapalya, Hennur Road, and Geddalahalli Road.

While the BBMP deployed workers and pumping units in some zones, the absence of long-term drainage solutions continues to worsen the impact.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more heavy rain over the next six days. Senior IMD scientist CS Patil said that large parts of central and north Karnataka will also see heavy showers this week.
