Government exempts small buildings in ULBs from Occupancy Certificate mandate in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The government has provided a relief for many building owners by exempting ground+2 or stilt+3 buildings built on plots up to 1,200 sqft under all urban local bodies from obtaining an occupancy certificate (OC).

Recently, the government had provided a similar relief to such buildings within the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) jurisdiction and has now extended the order to include all other urban local bodies.

In an order passed on Friday, the government noted that inspection of every building before providing a OC will be a strain on manpower.  Hence, using the powers provided under the Section 190(2-A) of the Karnataka Municipalities Act, 1964, the decision was taken.

The decision is expected to help thousands of property owners who were left in a lurch after the Supreme Court made OC mandatory for power supply and water supply to buildings.
