Hot ideas to brave the winter chill

Last Updated 15 November 2012, 14:40 IST

Since winter seems to have arrived a little earlier this year (as compared to say the last three years) and promises to be a chilly one, looks like it won’t be enough to just wrap yourself up in shawls, overcoats and heavy cardigans and pullovers.

What you might just need to keep yourself completely snug will be some great accessories. You could take your pick from cool (don’t take that literally) gloves, mittens, mufflers, stoles, stockings, tights, caps and good old scarves. The winter breeze may pinch but you don’t need to give that fashion a miss!

Start with the ever favourite mufflers in wool and cashmilon, and wrap them around the neck in different styles to pep up your look. “Light weight cashmere mufflers - especially checked ones will be experimented with a lot. They will look very good in bright colours such as red and black and help make a fashion statement this season,” says designer Sunil Mehra.

Or try teaming your winter wear with stoles and scarves, both of which are available in numerous patterns and fabrics for both the casual and professional look. But one thing that will surely set you apart is a cut glove. Designer Jenjum Gadi says, “The cut-out gloves in leather give a perfect biker look to males whereas the same in net will add to the feminine look of any woman.”

The designer also predicts that, “Big danglers and clutches in non-typical shapes will make a come back this winter.” But if you are concerned about avoiding that chill freezing your ears, then buy a pair of fur headphones in tones of brown and green.

Also, try out various caps and hats, which add a lot of elegance, style and appeal to your outfit. Knitted wool caps that have elongated ends and fur caps will soon be coming out of closets to be accessorised with long and short coats and other heavy . woollens. Buy these in bright colours and team them up with overcoats and tights for that perfect look.

Speaking of tights, look out for the ones with interesting and engaging patterns like spots, stripes and checks in fabrics like net, wool, thick cottons and cashmilon. They look really snazzy with skirts, pullovers and even LBDs!

So cover your body this winter in style to add that extra oomph!
