Kidnapped eight-month-old reunited with blind parents

An eight-month-old son of a blind couple kidnapped on April 27 was reunited with his parents at the Upparpet police station on Tuesday.

Basavaraj and B K Chinnu, from Arakere village in Devadurga, Raichur, lost their son Sagar when they boarded a bus from Raichur on the night of April 26 to meet their relative Channabasava in the city.

The couple landed in Majestic and came to the BMTC platform 19(D) at 7.30 am. As they waited for the bus, Sagar felt thirsty and cried.

Chinnu took him to a public water booth but found it harder to make the toddler drink water.

At that point, a woman offered to help her and asked her to pass on the boy and the glass she held.

After feeding the boy water, the woman returned the glass but did not hand back her son. Chinnu groped around for the woman but found only empty space.

She filed a complaint with the Upparpet police, who formed a special search party.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Ravi D Channannavar said two Kengeri residents, Lakshmidevi and Parvathamma, handed over the kid at the police station on Tuesday.

In her statement, Parvathamma said a woman left the boy with her as she stood near the public toilet on April 27 and asked her to keep the boy till she returned.

Parvathamma took the boy home as the woman did not return and she could not find her inside the toilet. She decided to hand the boy to the police station after learning from media reports that he was the son of a blind couple.

Police are interrogating both the women and are checking their backgrounds, though they believe they are innocent.

The special team headed by Chickpet assistant police commissioner is still probing “all angles” to find out the woman kidnapper.

The DCP returned the boy to his blind parents at his office. The couple expressed their gratitude to the police, saying they have gotten back their life.
