Saravana (33) hanged himself with a cassette reel on Monday night at Sevanagar after a quarrel with his wife Sudha (30). The couple have a two and a half year old daughter Chinmayi.

Police said Saravana arrived at 9:45 pm on Monday night after a meeting with his friends to plan a holiday trip to Sangama. He picked up a quarrel with his wife for not cooking dinner. The quarrel ensued after Sudha, who had been unwell questioned her husband on his late arrival and criticised him for his holiday plans.

Police said Sudha refused to cook dinner, infuriating her husband who had come home with vegetables.

Saravana then went and locked himself into a room leaving Sudha and their daughter to sleep in the living room. The police said Sudha did not suspect anything initially as her husband was in the habit of shutting himself in the room after quarrels.

However, she grew suspicious after his phone rang repeatedly and was unanswered. Some of Saravana’s friends who arrived on the scene, broke open the door to find him hanging from the ceiling fan. According to police, Saravana had been under stress for a while as the leases on the family’s apartment was about to run out and they were contemplating buying a new apartment in Bangalore.
