<p>Bengaluru: A dowry death case has been registered against a husband and mother-in-law for allegedly torturing a woman for dowry in Anchepalya, northern Bengaluru.</p>.<p>The suspect, Abhishek, who had married Spandana A C (24) in a love marriage, is facing charges following her suicide on July 24. The Madanayakanahalli police have arrested Abhishek and his mother, Lakshmamma.</p>.<p>According to the complaint filed by Spandana’s father, his daughter had been tricked into marriage in the name of love. The couple had registered their marriage a year ago and subsequently began to quarrel, during which Spandana was subjected to severe physical and mental harassment for dowry. On the day of her death, she reportedly called her father, stating that Abhishek, influenced by his mother, was relentlessly torturing her physically and mentally. Later, she was found hanging at her residence.</p>.<p>The police have registered a case under Sections 85 (cruelty by a husband or his relatives towards a woman), 80 (dowry death) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The investigation is ongoing.</p>
