The much-sought-after lounges at the Kempegowda International Airport have introduced new features across both terminals.
.
Aptly named 080 Lounge, the facility is available at Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2). Together, the terminals receive 1,10,000 travellers per day. Approximately 90, 000 of these are domestic fliers, while the rest are international.
.
While the domestic lounge at T2 draws inspiration from Bengaluru and other prominent regions of Karnataka, its international lounge pays homage to the diverse heritage of India. The latter consists of six distinct zones, ranging from the ‘Banyan by the River’, inspired by the Ganga ghats, to the ‘Nicobar Lounge’, inspired by the Great Nicobar islands.
.Smell the coffee beans, Bengaluru; your favourite brew is getting pricey.
The Shalimar is the latest addition to the international lounge and also its most premium zone. Tucked away in a corner, next to the Seven Sisters Tea Room, it is heavily inspired by Kashmir and its famous Shalimar Bagh.
.
A grand door made of walnut wood opens to a picturesque spot. Continuing with the Kashmiri theme, the space features lighting fixtures shaped like rose buds, and samovars (copper pots used to brew kahwa). Another striking feature is a corner adorned with detailed khatamband — a Kashmiri art form of creating intricate ceiling designs by fitting small wooden pieces together in geometric patterns. The Shalimar marks the completion of the international lounge at T2, which has been opened to the public in phases since 2023.
.
There are tree installations across the lounge — be it the ‘Wishing Tree’ in the Seven Sisters Tea Room, featuring glass oranges and leaves, the ‘Banyan Tree’ with dangling iridescent glass-bowl branches in the ‘Banyan by the River’ section, or the ‘School of Fish Tree’ in the Nicobar lounge.
.
Over the next two months, the 080 Transit Hotel is set to open at T2. Reflecting Bengaluru’s vibrant nature, it will feature 29 rooms designed to resemble silk cocoons.
.
The lounge at T1 has also seen some changes. In the past month, a tea lounge, a sports bar, and a spa and salon have opened at the facility.
