One-ways on pilot basis to decongest part of Bengaluru's Electronics City

Bengaluru: Roads in the western phase of Electronics City have been made one-way on a trial basis until January 3 as part of a decongestion effort. 

The Electronics City Industrial Township Authority (ELCITA), in collaboration with the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP), has created new one-way routes. 

"The objective is to improve traffic flow, alleviate traffic congestion and improve road safety in Electronics City," ELCITA said in a web announcement. 

ELCITA has consulted traffic consultants and discussed with senior traffic police authorities, who have approved the one-way solution plan. Adequate signage has been installed, and traffic marshals have been deployed to assist road users during the trial phase. The one-way system will apply on a 24x7 basis. 

Shiva Prakash Devaraju, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic, South), said that three to four circuits had been created and were testing them on a pilot basis as people needed to get used to the new restrictions. 

"It is too soon to say if these changes are effective as there is less traffic due to the holiday season. However, this trail will help us in using our software ASTraM to simulate traffic and come up with a verdict," he added.
