<p>Bengaluru: A police officer fired at a notorious history-sheeter after he allegedly attacked a constable while trying to evade arrest, officials said on Thursday. </p>.<p>The incident occurred near Bandapura village under the Surya City police station limits on <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/bengaluru-karnataka-india">Bengaluru’s</a> southern outskirts. The suspect is Sunil, who is wanted in over eight criminal cases, including murder and attempted murder, officials said. </p>.<p>“Sunil collected hafta (protection money) for another history-sheeter named Manu, who operates in the Anekal area,” a senior police officer told <em>DH</em>. </p>.<p>According to the police, based on credible inputs about Sunil’s whereabouts, a team from the Attibele police station led by the inspector reached Bandapura on Thursday morning. </p>.<p>“The police officers asked the suspect to surrender but he didn’t. He instead attacked police constable Vinay in a bid to escape. Vinay sustained some injuries. This led to the Attibele police inspector opening fire in self-defence after the suspect failed to heed any warning,” the officer quoted above said. </p>.In police complaint, Munirathna claims 'acid egg' was thrown at him.<p>Sunil sustained minor injuries to his leg and was taken to a hospital. “He is recovering and we have initiated the necessary legal action,” the officer added. </p>.<p>Last week, another history-sheeter, Lokesh B, was shot in the leg by an officer from the Jigani police station. Lokesh, who faced cases of murder and extortion, had attacked a police constable, leading to the shot being fired, police officers had said. </p>
