<p class="bodytext">Expressing solidarity with the people protesting against Vedanta’s Sterlite unit in Tamil Nadu, around 200 people from various organisations staged a protest in front of their office at the Prestige Meridian Towers on MG Road.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Members from the Environment Support Group, People’s Union for Civil Liberties, People’s Democratic Forum, Karnataka Tamil Makkal Aikiyam, Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation and a few members from the ALF were present at the protest on Thursday evening. The protesters demanded that the police summon a few officials from the Vedanta office. To this, the police said that the office, located on the seventh floor, was not functioning.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“The incident at Thoothukudi was a Tamil Nadu government-sponsored organised crime. Where is the human rights commission there?" said T Narasimhamurthy, an activist.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“Vedanta has been repeatedly engaging in such work, putting profit over the people. It has the backing of the two mainstream parties," another activist claimed.</p>
