A delegation of the Associated Managements of Private Un-Aided English Medium School in Karnataka (KAMS) met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday to seek redressal of their grievances on several issues.

KAMS general secretary Shashi Kumar D said that they made a presentation to the chief minister on five issues.

The association requested the government to take note of their objections to the draft rules of fee structure notified on October 5, 2016 by the Department of Public Instruction. “From the last 18 years, the fee structure has not been revised but the cost of running schools has increased” they said in presentation. They also requested the government to make a declaration on the amount they spend for the education of each child and further, revise the reimbursement given to private schools which admit students under the RTE quota.  The association requested clarification on Primary and Secondary Education minister Tanveer Sait’s statement that permission will not be given to start new private schools in the next five years.

The association also appealed for clarity on admissions under the 25% RTE quota in non-minority schools. “We want a standard set of rules to be followed every year for applications. They should not keep relaxing the age limit for admission or create new rules about schools they can apply to,” Shashi Kumar said. Lastly, they sought protection for educational institutions on the lines of protection given to hospitals by Home department. They asked for appointment of nodal officers from the police and education department.
