The south division of Bangalore police recovered stolen valuables worth Rs 3.06 crore by arresting 156 people in 256 cases of burglary, robbery, chain-snatching, vehicle-thefts and other crimes in the last two months.

Among the suspects is Gopalakrishna, 37, who allegedly burgled several houses. The Chamarajpet police said he would roam around residential localities in an autorickshaw allegedly on the pretext of looking for passengers but would actually zero in on the houses found locked.

He would later break into them and make off with valuables. The police said they recovered gold and silver ornaments, cash, bikes and other valuables — all valued at Rs 18.5 lakh — from the suspect.

Gopalakrishna was jailed for various crimes and released about a year-and-a-half ago. But he allegedly did not give up the life of crime.
