T Thimme Gowda, the JD(S) floor leader in the BBMP Council, has alleged a scandal in the transportation of garbage from Mandur and Rajarajeshwarinagar to Terra Firma in Doddaballapur.

Addressing reporters, Gowda said that the BBMP had floated tenders on two previous occasions to transport solid waste to Terra Firma on which the Palike annually spends Rs 10 crore. As the Palike wants to float the tender for the third time, Gowda said the Palike must debate the issue in Council at length, before it makes a decision.

The company which had received the contract to transport solid waste was supposed to employ a 10-wheeler truck equipped with a Geo Positioning System (GPS) system. They were also required to own the truck and other necessary equipment. However, these norms were not fulfilled, he claimed, and added that the company had clearly flouted procedures by not transporting garbage at night.

He alleged that BBMP records show that two trucks carrying the same registration number were found at Mandur and Rajarajeshwarinagar at the same time. “These malpractices have given us the impression that foul play is involved in the transportation of garbage,” Gowda said.
