Last Updated 11 February 2013, 19:24 IST

The City-based Goethe Institut Max Mueller Bhavan will offer scholarships to graduates interested in learning German.

The graduates will be deputed as teachers to Kendriya Vidyalayas across Karnataka for a period of 18 months.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Sangathan that looks after more than 1,000 Vidyalayas in the country has signed a pact with Southern Asian division of the Goethe Instuit Max Mueller Bhavan to teach German in KVs across the country.

German-teaching schools

At present, out of the 40 KVs in Karnataka, German is being taught in only 10 schools as an optional language. Eight such schools are in Bangalore.

“In 2009, German was being taught in only three schools across the State. In 2011, the number went up to seven and by this year, I am quite confident that the language will be taught in at least 15 schools,” said Peter Mampurakal, KV Co-ordinator for Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore.

Two persons — one each from Dharwad and Mangalore — have availed the scholarship, and have taken up teaching German in KVs located in their respective districts.
