The boy from Krishnagiri was saved following a rare surgery conducted by the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) here on Thursday. He had earlier undergon treatment in four major hospitals.
Tamilvannan fell from a tree on August 1 and subsequently developed swelling inside the chest.
He survived for five weeks with a rare intra thoracic foreign body, a sharp wooden stick measuring 11 cms.
Dr Shashidhar Buggi, director of the hospital, said that the foreign body was successfully removed from the patient’s body and he is doing well now.
Thoracotomy (an incision into the pleural space of the chest) was conducted to remove the foreign body after which Haemostasis (a process to control bleeding) followed by aerostasis was performed.
Besides Dr Buggi, the team of doctors which conducted the surgery included Dr M D Patil, Dr Sathyaprakash, Dr Venugopal and Dr Umarakesh.
