Three medical trainees were hit by a speeding car while crossing the road in front of St. John’s Hospital at Madiwala on Sunday. One of them is said to be critical.

According to the police, Jeevesh (23), Zafar (23) and Alak Kasab (24), who are under going medical training at the hospital, were crossing the road around 5.15 pm on their way home when a car hit them. Darshan (25), who was driving the car, admitted them to St. John’s Hospital with the help of the police.

They were hit by the rear side of the car and all three fell a few meters away sustaining critical head injuries, the police said. Doctors said that the condition of Jeevesh is critical while the other two are stable. All three are natives of Kerala and currently live in Maruthinagar.

The police have registered a case and seized the vehicle but are yet to initiate legal proceedings against the driver. The police are collecting CCTV footage from the area and are also waiting for the victims to recover to record their statements.

Dr Sanjeev Lewis from St. John’s Hospital said there is no pedestrian safety and the authorities have neither constructed a sky-walk nor installed lights for the pedestrians to cross the busy Sarjapur and Hosur Road safely. This is a main road but no steps are taken for pedestrian safety.
