Car plunges into lake; providential escape for 2

Shekar and Govindaraju hailing from T Narsipura were travelling to Mysore, when their car hit a goods autorickshaw plying in the opposite direction, lost control and plunged into water.

According to South Police, Shekar who was at the wheels overtook a bus, lost control on the steering, only to hit the auto going towards T Narsipura from Mysore. Auto driver Lokesh of Megalapura suffered injuries in the incident. Shekar and Govindaraju swam towards the shore. The car was fished out with the help of a tractor.

The mishap is a reminiscence of the gory incident that occurred on December 14, when a maxicab fell into Undabatti Tank on Mysore- Nanjangud Road that claimed 32 lives. Following the incident, the government has decided to put up railing around four lakes including Varuna. Work pertaining to this is yet to be taken up.

A case has been registered and investigations are on.

Fatal slip

A woman from Mysore had a fatal slip from the train near Pandavapura Railway Station on Monday.

M B Saritha (38) wife of A K Satyanarayan, inspector at Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) at Karkala is that unfortunate. She was a resident of Giridarshini Layout, Alanahalli . Saritha had been to Bangalore to tend to her ill father on December 6. She was returning to the city in a train, when death lurked at her.

According to railway police, she may have been standing near the door and could have lost balance and fallen off, thus coming under the train. Her identity was traced with the help of a cell number. Autopsy was conducted on Tuesday.

Shop burgled

Miscreants have decamped with cash from a shop, while they couldn’t find anything at another, in the city.

Thieves broke into Trishakti Medicals at fifth cross in Saraswathipuram and escaped with ` 3,000 from the cash box. The shutters of Safewheels, a travel firm was also broken open, however, nothing was missing from here. In both cases, the burglars have broken open the shutters. Saraswathipuram Police have registered the cases.
