The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government resorted to demonetisation in order to "divert the attention of the people and hide its failure" said Rajya Saba member Oscar Fernandes.
He was speaking at the "Black Day" organised by the Congress to mark the first anniversary of note ban, in Udupi on Wednesday, condemning the Centre's move on demonetisation and introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
He said the BJP had promised to bring back the black money stashed in foreign banks.
"Since it failed in its attempt, the Centre resorted to the scrapping of notes. Demonetisation exercise badly hit industries and employment scenario," said Fernandes.
Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation chairperson M A Gafoor said: "good times as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was only for the corporates and industrialists."
