<p>Davangere: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that Karnataka’s socio-economic survey is quite different from just the caste survey the Centre has planned to conduct from 2027.</p>.<p>“The caste survey alone is not enough to ensure social justice to people of all castes. Therefore, we have taken up the exercise,” Siddaramaiah said. He was speaking to reporters in Davangere on Monday.</p>.<p>Replying to a query, he said, people of upper castes and oppressed classes had objected to the survey conducted by the then backward classes commission in 2015. Besides, the data was ten years old and the Section 11 of the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes Act, 1995 allows the government to conduct fresh survey if the report was ten years old.</p>.Karnataka's 2015 Caste Census: How Siddaramaiah's pet project met its end.<p>He said he has directed the state backward classes commission to conduct the fresh survey soon. </p>.<p>Speaking after launching various works totalling to Rs 1,356 crore, Siddaramaiah said that the Congress government has been ensuring development of the state while honouring its commitment of five guarantee schemes.</p>.<p>“The BJP and JD(S) are falsely claiming that the government has no money. The leaders of these two parties are experts in telling lies. The government could not have taken up development projects worth crores of rupees if it had no money,” the chief minister said.</p>.<p>Siddaramaiah said that the state government spent Rs 51,000 crore for development projects in 2023-24 and this expenditure went up to Rs 83,000 crore during 2024-25. “The budget outlay of the state has expanded from Rs 3.71 lakh crore to Rs 4.09 lakh crore. Let Leader of Opposition R Ashoka and state BJP president B Y Vijayendra come for a public debate in this matter,” Siddaramaiah challenged.</p>
