Nursing colleges have moved the High Court of Karnataka challenging the single-bench order which had stated that the Indian Nursing Council does not have the authority to grant recognition to institutions imparting the nursing course. Adichunchanagiri College of Nursing and 29 other nursing colleges moved the court contending that the Indian Nursing Council has the authority.

The Karnataka State Association of the Management of Nursing and Allied Health Science Institutions and others had earlier approached the court seeking directions to rule out the authority claimed by the council and said that they are governed only by the university to which their institution is affiliated or to the Medical Council of India.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar adjourned the next hearing  until August 21.

Notice to govt
The High Court of Karnataka on Monday ordered notice to the state government in a petition filed by Rajeshwari Shetty, the wife of Udupi-based businessman Bhaskar Shetty, who was murdered under mysterious circumstances.

Rajeshwari moved the court challenging the death certificate issued by the Karkala tahsildar. She contended that the police had not found her husband’s body or any of his remains but still a death certificate had been issued. Bhaskar Shetty went missing from his house and later his wife Rajeshwari Shetty is alleged to have confessed to having killing him. Justice A S Bopanna ordered notice in the matter.
