'Create awareness on soil health management'

There is a need to create awareness on soil health management and application of the judicious use of water among farmers, said Rajya Krishi Samaja President Basavana Gowda Mali Patil.

Speaking at Jilla Krishi Samaja meeting on Monday, he said the government has chalked out various programmes for the welfare of farmers. There is a need to create awareness on the same. The farmers should be guided on farming activities. The seeds and fertilisers should be distributed as per the demand.

Middlemen have been engaged in using chemicals to ripen the fruits. As a result, consumers think twice while purchasing fruits. There is a need to check the use of chemicals for ripening the fruits, he added. He also said that the quality of farm equipment should be checked at the Krishi Yantradhare Yojane and the government should relax the age limit to avail facilities under Raitha Sanjivini Yojane.

Jilla Krishi Samaja President B C Narendra said farmers should take up mechanisation in farming to reduce the cost of production.
