Election for town panchayats on Oct 28

Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya said election for three town panchayats in Kodagu - Virajpet, Kushalnagar and Somwarpet will be held on October 28.

Addressing reporters in Madikeri on Monday, she said October 16 is the last day to file nominations.

The scrutiny of nominations will be held on October 17. October 20 is the last day to withdraw nominations. The counting of votes will be held on October 31.

There are 11 wards in Somwarpet, 16 in Kushalnagar and 18 wards in Virajpet. The number of voters in the three town panchayats are: Somwarpet - 5,261, Kushalnagar - 11,599 and Virajpet - 13,926.

As many as 45 polling booths are set up in the district, of which 11 are in Somwarpet, 16 in Kushalnagar and 18 in Virajpet. There are two hypersensitive polling booths in Somwarpet and Virajpet each and three hypersensitive booths in Kushalnagar.

Arundhathi Chandrashekhar, M J Roopa and N Susheelama will be the special observer, general observer and expenses observer respectively, said the DC.

Additional DC Pravin Kumar was present in the press meet.
