Farmer injured in elephant attack

A farmer suffered minor injuries when an elephant attacked him, at Hirikara in Somwarpet on Wednesday.

The injured is H E Erappa (67). While working on his coffee estate, the elephant attacked him. When the members of the house raised alarm, the elephant left the place. On seeing the elephant, children who were playing in the courtyard ran inside the house.

The villagers said that the Forest Department had laid trenches in Malambi reserve forest to check elephants straying into villages.

Despite this measure, elephants have been straying into the villages. The trenches should be repaired, said the villagers.
