Fishing boat capsizes near Devgad

A fishing boat from Malpe capsized near Devgad in Maharashtra on Monday night.

According to sources, the boat is identified as Shivaraksha, estimated to cost around Rs 90 lakh, belonging to Dinesh Tingalaya from Hoode in Paduthonse. The fishermen on board of the fishing boat have been rescued.

The steel boat had fishermen from Bhatkal, namely Sunil Manjunath, Suresh Manjunath, Jagnath Ram, Prashant Mudagi, Gajendra Panduranga, Krishna Mogera and Lohit Dharma.

The boat had left Malpe shore on April 6 and was into the deep sea fishing some 40 nautical miles off Ratnagiri coast in Maharashtra, when the tragedy occurred. The boat had hit some sharp item at the bottom and water started gushing in.

The fishermen immediately sent a message to other boats fishing nearby. Fishing boat Shivatejas rushed to the spot and rescued all the seven fishermen.
