<p>Mysuru: After the grand Gajapayana celebrations at Veeranahosahalli near Nagarahole Tiger Reserve (NTR), the Dasara elephants from various forest camps arrived at the Aranya Bhavana premises located in Ashokapuram, Mysuru city, around 6 pm on Monday. </p><p>The Forest department officials received the them with a puja. They mentioned that the elephants will rest here till Thursday. </p><p>Among the elephants from Matthigodu camp of NTR was a 59-year old Abhimanyu, which has been participating in Dasara since 2012. He has carried the golden <em>howdah</em> in the Dasara procession for five years and participated in combing operations to rescue about 140 wild elephants and around 40 tigers during man-animal conflicts. </p><p>Abhimanyu arrived with his mahout J S Vasantha and Kaavaadi J K Raju.</p><p>While Abhimanya might be the eldest, a 25-year old elephant named Bheema is notably participating in the celebration since 2017. </p><p>Bheema has been taking part in the puja and other rituals of the private Dasara celebrations of the erstwhile royal family at the Mysuru Palace. He arrived with mahout J C Bhaskar and J S Rajanna. Like Abhimanya, Dhananjaya too participates in operations to capture tigers and elephants. </p><p>Kanjan, a 26-year-old elephant is participating in Dasara for the third time in the celebration. Kanjan arrived with his mahout J D Vijaya and Kaavadi Kirana. Meanwhile, 45-year old Kaveri, who has been participating in Dasara from the past few years, walked alongside mahout J D Dobhi and Kaavadi J A Sanjan. </p><p>Among the elephants which have arrived from the Balle camp of NTR is 54-year-old Lakshmi, which was rescued from a circus in 2015. This elephant has engaged in the training for Dasara for the second time. She arrived along with her mahout Sannappa and kavadi Manju. </p><p>For 42-year-old Mahendra, it is the fourth year of Dasara. He arrived with mahout Rajanna and Kaavadi Mallikarjuna. He participates as the 'wooden <em>howdah</em> carrier' in Srirangapatna Dasara.</p><p>40-year-old Ekalavya, who is participating in Dasara for the second time, arrived with his mahout Srujan and Kaavadi S Idayat from Doddaharave camp of NTR. </p><p>Most of the elephants including Bheema, Dhananjaya, and Mahendra participate in operations to capture tigers and elephants. </p><p>In the second batch, Gopi, 42, Sugreeva, 43 from Dubaare camp, three new elephants - Srikanta, 56, from Matthigodu; Roopa, 44, from Bheemanakatte, and Hemavathi from Dubaare - will arrive in Mysuru for the training after a few weeks. </p>
