Gold worth Rs 49 lakh recovered from capsules hidden inside two passengers' bodies at Mangaluru Airport

Mangaluru: Customs officers at Mangaluru International Airport seized gold and e -cigarette pods from two passengers who arrived from Dubai.

According to officials, as they profiled passengers, they noticed suspicious movements of two individuals, both residents of Kasargod, who arrived from Dubai to Mangaluru by an Air India Express flight. They were soon intercepted.

Three oval shaped objects were recovered from inside their bodies. 24 carat purity gold weighing 625 grams worth Rs 48.75 lakh was recovered from the capsules.

Officials also recovered 147 nicotine liquid refill of e- cigarette pods worth Rs 1,41,134. The e- cigarette pods were concealed in a carton box brought as check-in baggage.

The investigation is ongoing.
