The department of collegiate education has issued a circular stating that services of guest lecturers who have been working with the department will be continued. This follows confusions over continuation of their services.

The department has, however, advised these lecturers to apply online for the recruitment process. After filling the posts with the existing guest lecturers, the department will consider fresh recruitment based on merit.

Members of the Karnataka State First Grade Colleges Guest Lectures Association met Minister for Higher Education G T Devegowda on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum on their concerns over the recruitment process.

"There were concerns over whose services would be continued. We met the minister in this regard. There are many who have served the department for nearly a decade. They must be given preference," said N Srinivasachar, president of the association.

The association also sought that either NET, SLET, PhD or MPhil be considered while processing applications and that invidividual scores should not be allocated for each of these. "There are teachers who would have cleared NET, but do not have an MPhil. There will be minimal chance for such teachers," he said.

The guest lecturers said that the salary they get is Rs 11,500 a month, while in other states, it varies between Rs 22,000 and Rs 25,000. They sought that the state pay them on a par with their counterparts in other states.
