The State government is contemplating increasing the number of posts for deputy commissioner (crime) in Bangalore.

It also wants to  increase the current posts of senior officers, said Deputy Chief Minister, Home & Transport Minister R Ashoka.

Briefing reporters, after a meeting with DG&IGP L R Pachau, Home Department Principal Secretary V Umesh, ADGP (law and order) Bipin Gopalrkishna and Bangalore City Police Commissioner B G Jyothi Prakash Mirji, he said: “It has been decided to attach more number of senior officers to various police wings of Bangalore as the City is growing in all directions. It is difficult to manage affairs with the existing staff.”

Currently, there is only one DCP for the crime wing. We are planning to divide the City into three divisions which will have three DCPs for the crime wing.

The move will enable the police to check the increasing number of crimes and help in solving sensational cases quickly, he explained.

No decision was taken on increasing the number of Additional Commissioners of Police (Law & Order).

“The City is facing a massive problem regarding traffic. There is an immediate need to appoint two more DCPs for the traffic wing,” he said and added that it will be discussed at the government level and a decision will be taken as soon as possible.
