A bundh has been called in the entire Hyderabad Karnataka region comprising the six districts of Bidar, Gulbarga,Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal, and Bellary on Tuesday in protest against the delay on the part of the Centre to amend Article 371 of the Constitution, enabling the State government to initiate special and exclusive measures for the development of the most backward region of the State.

The Hyderabad Karnataka Horata Samiti, headed by veteran leader and former minister Vaijanath Patil, has been spearheading the movement in the last 15 years. The Samiti said it has become imperative to amend Article 371 at the earliest for providing reservation to local candidates in education and employment and for taking up special measures for the speedy development of the region.
