The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday directed the state government to identify the linguistic minorities.

Justice B V Nagarathna issued the direction to Education department while hearing a petition filed by Kasturi Ba Trust and New Vidyanikethan School.

The bench orally observed, “The Central government has already ignored the issue. According to Ranganath Mishra report, the state governments have the authority to identify the linguistic minorities, and the same has to be implemented.”

The petitioner’s counsel contended, “With this report, there will be a clarity on the linguistic minorities. This will also be useful in addressing the issues that educational institutions with linguistic minorities are facing under Right to Education Act.”
