Several districts in the state continued to receive moderate to heavy rains on Thursday.

A few parts of Ballari, Uttara Kannada and Bidar districts received heavy rainfall. Normal life was affected in the major towns of Bidar district as heavy downpour was reported in the last 24 hours on Thursday.

Heavy rains in the catchments of River Krishna and its tributaries in Maharashtra have led to the neighbouring state releasing 24,000 cusecs from the Rajapur barrage into River Krishna from Thursday. Belagavi Deputy Commissioner N Jayaram has asked the people not to panic as there was no fear of floods.

Meanwhile, miscreants damaged a portion of Tungabhadra left bank canal near Lakkundi-Papanashi Road in Gadag taluk late on Tuesday night. Based on the reports of the eyewitnesses, the police are conducting an investigation. The damage is said to be worth Rs 2.5 lakh and water from the canal gushed into the nearby fields, damaging crops. Water was being released through the canal under the Singatalur lift irrigation project.
