Hirekerur KJP candidate makes suicide bid

KJP candidate for Hirekerur Assembly constituency attempted to commit suicide by consuming an overdose of sleeping pills reportedly due to rejection of the party's symbol by election officers.

Harish Ingalgondi, the candidate, was admitted at Haveri district hospital for treatment. He is said to be out of danger, said the police.

On Saturday, he had told a press conference that the election officers had allotted him the coconut tree symbol, instead of the coconut which was the KJP's symbol.

The election officers had clarified that there was a controversy regarding the coconut symbol and hence it was impossible to allot it as the symbol.

The Haveri police have registered a case.
