Dr Balakrishna Shetty of the diagnostic lab said the research proposes to study the basal ganglia  - the part of the brain which controls the movement in the body. This will help the scientists to understand the responses. The study would particularly help in coming up with treatment for Parkinson's Disease.

Dr Shetty said scientists from IISc will utilise the services of radiologists and MRI machine in the diagnostic lab. "Earlier, an animal subjected to test would die.  But with the advent of MRI machine, the sacrificing of animals has come to a halt. Abnormal monkey brains will be used to see the parts of brain that are affected by any disease," he said. The imaging of the animals will be carried out for three months.
