Irked villagers plant saplings on slushy road, in Arsikere

Condemning the connecting road to the village that is unfit for use, the protesters said the road is frequented every day by hundreds of schoolchildren and farmers who are accompanied by bullock carts on their way to the fields to take up agricultural activities.
The slushy road is danger prone as there is a constant fear among them that the vehicles would skid causing mishaps.

They are left with no other option but to search for an alternative route to reach their destinations, which is causing great hardship for the residents here, they claim. If there is any medical urgency, the people have to struggle to reach Kanakatte village to seek medical help.

The protesters also claimed that though this has been brought to the notice of elected representatives several times, they are turning a blind eye towards the issue.

The villagers disclosed that Rs 65,000 has been released under taluk panchayat funds about four months ago.

 But the contractor who began repair works had dumped 100 loads of sand and five loads of gravel on the route, which turns slushy after a couple of showers .

However, the contractor replied that he has completed his job, they add.

They demanded that the authorities concerned should immediately look into the matter and solve the woes of the villagers at the earliest.
