Beer sales have peaked in the state in the last two years, the government might be looking to capitalise on beer sales.</p><p>The Brewer's Association of India (BAI) had issued an objection to the increase in beer rates as given in the draft notification, reasoning that Karnataka will have one of the highest beer prices in the country which will reduce the sales. However, the government has gone ahead with the hike. </p>.<p><strong>Duty details:</strong> ₹10–₹50</p><p><strong>Expected increase in retail price of premium beer: </strong></p><p>₹12/ per bulk litre of beer with alcohol content below 5 per cent.</p><p>₹20/ per bulk litre of beer with alcohol content above 5 per cent and below 8 per cent.</p><p>195 per cent or ₹130 additional duty on each bulk litre of beer with declared price of ₹300 and above (whichever is higher).</p><p>185 per cent or ₹120 additional duty on each bulk litre of draft beer with declared price of ₹40 and above (whichever is higher).</p>
